The Newcastle Senior School library aims to provide an environment that instills a love of literature, encouraging reading and listening as tools for lifelong learning and recreation.
Our library operates on Tuesdays with each class visiting for 30 minutes. Students are ecouraged to borrow up to 3 resources which are to be returned witin 14 days. The use of library bags is strongly encouraged.
A range of enterprise activities are undertaken by students to promote the development of pre-work skills. Activities have included car washing, gardening and canteen. Last year saw the introduction of our CHANCES program which involves students producing and selling a range of hand-made products including soy candles, sensory necklaces, cards, body scrubs and tie-dyed singlets.
Students gain a range of skills in planning, production, budgeting, and sales. Activities are conducted weekly with all proceeds going towards improving students' experience at school.
To date funds raised have purchased a DVD player for the bus, iPads, a new oven for the kitchen, and assisted in sending students on camps.
